You're listening to "The Sound Of Philadelphia” by MFSB (Mother, Father, Sister, Brother) featuring vocals by the group The Three Degrees.
The music was written by Philly Soul legends Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff as the theme song for the television show Soul Train.
The song reached #1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the R&B chart in 1974. Although the song was re-recorded in different versions over the different eras
of black music (’80s R&B, New Jack Swing, Hip-Hop, Neo-Soul) since 1974, “The Sound Of Philadelphia” remained the show’s theme song until the final episode in 2006.>
The track is on the group's "The Best Of MFSB: Love Is The Message" CD. Buy it HERE
Soul Train: A Blessing of a Lifetime
A Remembrance of Don Cornelius
written by Crystal McCarey
I know that in parting Don Cornelius would always wish me love, peace and soul, so I am going to take that love, peace and soul and move on with it with a smile on my heart
in remembrance and grattitude for the blessing it is to me to have danced on his show during all of my twenties and almost half of my thirties. I'm looking forward to a continual celebration of his important life's work, and the small part I was blessed to play in it.
Most important to me is that he lived and what he did with his life in taking
the art of television production for a ride on "his train," the Soul Train,
and in making some exciting television history while helping so many people along the way.
